We believe this is the only thermal fuse currently being sold in the UK that meets all the safety standards of the original thermal fuse GHD fitted.

Correct temperature rating = Yes.

Double insulated = Yes.

Correct size eyelets = Yes.

Kapton tape applied correctly = Yes.

Thermal fuse suitable for all GHD's, except some variants of the MS4.0 irons (see HERE for the smaller MS4 thermal fuse). This thermal fuse is rated at 227 degs C just like the original genuine GHD part!

Most replacement thermal fuses for GHDs sold by other suppliers are rated at 240 degrees C, however we don't believe this is safe for a few reasons:

  • Genuine Mk4 and newer GHDs have a 227 degrees C thermal fuse inside.
Therefore the CE mark is invalid if a 240 degrees C fuse is fitted.
The CE mark shows the manufacturer has determined the item meets EU safety, Health and Environmental standards.

  • A 240 degrees C thermal fuse will take a lot longer to trip resulting in more melted plastic. This is because of the thermal conductivity between the heater and the fuse and the fact a lot of the heat is conducted elsewhere, away from the fuse.

This fuse has been custom manufactured to our exact specification.

It has an extra layer of insulation over the wires which maintains the product's double insulation which is required for safety as it does not have an earth. The original GHD fuses use special double insulated wire (two independent layers of insulation over the same conductive core). This is a bit specialist, so we've added a separate insulation layer instead around the area of the wires that may come into contact with the metal heater plate.

Kapton tape is also used around the body of the thermal fuse with one side removed to provide the best thermal contact with the element, exactly the same as the original thermal fuse.

Please make sure that any over heating fault is repaired before fitting a new thermal fuse!

There will usually be a reason the thermal fuse has failed, except on MK3.1 irons, where failure can occur due to ageing.

See our guide HERE

All thermal fuses are individually checked for good continuity before being sent out.

This thermal fuse is slightly larger than the fuse used in older models of GHD.

Therefore modification of the plastic plate mounting part may be required. For more information please see our support page about thermal fuses and watch the video below.

My partners GHD SS5.0 Straighteners would not turn on on. I checked the wiring for continuity with a multimeter and the fault was with the thermal fuse as it was completely dead. I ordered this on Wednesday and it arrived two days later. I tested the new fuse with the multimeter and it has continuity. Replaced the old thermal fuse with the new one and the straighteners power on and heat up normally.

I chose to pay a little extra for this fuse over the £3 fuses from ebay due to the rating being 229 degrees. £6.99 to replace a fuse or £100+ for a new pair... no brainer.

Thank you

Excellent service, desperate call on a Thursday afternoon to see if there was any chance of getting a fuse for the wifes broken straighteners next day as we were going away Saturday morning, after speaking with Trevor he told me they would be sent 1st class and sure enough it arrived Friday morning. Followed the simple instructions to replace from their website (I'd already used the brilliant diagnosis information to establish the fault) and hey presto they're back to life and I've earned plenty browny points from the wife! Can't recommend enough. Thanks again Trevor :)

WOW! What a great site! Info provided showed 3.1B thermal fuse was at fault (open circuit when measured) new part ordered on Wednesday morning Part popped through letterbox on Thursday!!! thought I'd got the wrong one as size was double? - called the office and got reassuring advice - lesson is to look at all the technical help and you tube vids before starting! also wish I'd bought new plastic backing as mine was very brittle and is now minus a small piece that broke off during reassembly. many thanks.

The advice available on the website is excellent and pointed to a blown thermal fuse.
Ordered Tuesday evening - arrived Thursday morning - 3.1B's fixed and good as new.
Great service - thank you!
